Schwabacher’s Landing is a popular location for photographers to capture the dramatic Grand Tetons with a classic water reflection in the foreground. The site is on the Snake River in the Grand Tetons National Park around 16 miles north of Jackson Hole in Wyoming. The calm waters of the river, created by beaver dams, allow for those beautiful sunrise reflections.

The area is easily accessible from a dirt road off Highway 89. However, the gravel road had been closed to vehicles resulting in a four-mile hike to the landing spot offering numerous photo opportunities along the way.

Schwabachers Landing is a boat landing spot on the Snake River located a few miles north of the town of Jackson Hole in the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.

This location is popular with photographers and naturalists alike, due to the wonderful sunrise reflections of the mountains in the calm waters (created by beavers dams) of the river. Wildlife, which includes moose, pronghorn, bald eagles and several water bird species, are frequently seen in the immediate vicinity.

Bryce amphitheater viewed from Inspiration Point. The distinctive geological structures are called hoodoos, and have been formed by erosion and frost weathering. The red, orange and white colors of the rocks from which the park’s delicate hoodoos are carved, was laid down as sediments in a system of cool streams and lakes that existed from 63 to about 40 million years ago.

Glendalough means ‘Valley of two lakes’. It’s a glacial valley which is renowned for an Early Medieval monastic settlement founded in the 6th century by the monk, St Kevin.

The 30 metre tower is built of mica-slate interspersed with granite and with an entrance 3.5 metres from the base, which would have helped in its security from marauders. Round towers were landmarks for approaching visitors, and built as bell towers, but also served as places of refuge in times of attack.

In a mild weather country like Ireland, winter scenes such as this are rare. The Nenagh River rises in the Silvermine Mountains and flows east of the local town of Nenagh and into Lough Derg on the river Shannon. A once-grand country house can be seen in the left of the picture. In the last century its roof had to be removed in order to avoid paying high Irish land taxes.

Kylemore Castle was built as a private home for the family of a wealthy doctor from London whose family was involved in the manufacturing of textiles in Manchester, England. He moved to Ireland when he and his wife Margaret bought the land around the Abbey. He became a politician, becoming a Member of Parliament for County Galway from 1871 to 1885.

Kylemore Abbey is a Benedictine monastery founded in 1920 on the grounds of Kylemore Castle. The abbey was founded for Benedictine Nuns who fled Belgium in World War I.

This is one of the stone faces at the South Gate of the Angkor Temples and is in itself just one of the five main gates into the ancient Angkor Thom.

Angkor Thom literally means “Great City”, and it covers an area of 9 sq km. It was the last and most enduring capital city of the Khmer empire being established in the late 12th century by King Jayavarman VII.

At the centre of the city is Jayavarman’s state temple, the magnificent Bayon.

Ta Keo was possibly the first temple to be built by the Khmers entirely of sandstone. It’s a massive five-layered pyramid which rises 22m (72ft) from ground level.

It was the state temple of Jayavarman V, who as a ten year old boy succeeded his father, Rajendravarman, to the throne in 968. During the early part of his reign times were turbulent and the court officials dominated the royal political scene. However, when he was aged seventeen, he began the vast construction of his own state temple, Ta Keo.

In contrast to the grand sprawl of the Angkor Wat complex, Bayon was at the heart of the what was the largest known settlement complex of the pre-industrial world. It’s known that the temple once consisted of over 200 smiling stone faces carved into the 50 towers. Today only 37 towers remain.

This stunning and compact temple is located just a few miles from the Cambodian town of Siem Reap.

While paddling in a canoe on a peaceful stretch of swamp water in North Carolina, this bald eagle flew gracefully overhead to check out the visitors.

Paddling deep into the swamp, it wasn’t long before we located the eerie in a tall dead tree and were pleased to find two well grown chicks still at the site.
